Who We Are
In the autumn of 2014, a Maryland Athletic Club (MAC) member and Kung Fu enthusiast Tanya Davis proposed offering a short-term, weekly class for the children of MAC members who were interested in an introduction to martial arts. By its second anniversary, the Kung Fu “class” at the MAC was up to three days a week and included separate classes for intermediates, self-defense training and weapons.
The MAC’s Kung Fu program became Three Branches Kung Fu School shortly before the United States Kuo Shu Federation National tournament in 2017. Most sessions have 15 to 20 students, and two of the original four students received their black sashes in November, 2019.
Starting age is 5 years old!
Classes are in Patterson Park and at Sokol Gymnastics, as we await return to MAC gym. There are two group class per week for six weeks: one at 4:15 on Thurs., in the park, for beginners, and the second at 9:30a on Sunday at Sokol.
Cost per 12-class, six week session is $155.

Three Branches offers instruction in the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu style of Tien Shan Pai. Mastery of eight forms (and one tournament competition) is required to earn the school’s black sash, including at least one weapon form and one two-person form. Students test for promotion after a minimum time at each level.
