Who We Are
In the autumn of 2014, a Maryland Athletic Club (MAC) member and Kung Fu enthusiast Tanya Davis proposed offering a short-term, weekly class for the children of MAC members who were interested in an introduction to martial arts. By its second anniversary, the Kung Fu “class” at the MAC was up to three days a week and included separate classes for intermediates, self-defense training and weapons.
The MAC’s Kung Fu program became Three Branches Kung Fu School shortly before the United States Kuo Shu Federation National tournament in 2017. Most sessions have 15 to 20 students, and two of the original four students received their black sashes in November, 2019.
Starting age is 5 years old!
Classes are at Sokol Gymnastics, since Covid removed our program from MAC gym. There are two youth classes per week per six-week session: one beginners class at 6p Wed. and the second at 11:30a on Sunday, both at Sokol.
Cost per 12-class, six week session is $180.
ADULT CLASSES NOW OFFERED at 4:30p Fri. and 1p Sun. at $25/class, running continuously.

Three Branches offers instruction in the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu style of Tien Shan Pai. Mastery of eight forms (and one tournament competition) is required to earn the school’s black sash, including at least one weapon form and one two-person form. Students test for promotion after a minimum time at each level.
